Marmora Gets a 200th Anniversary Logo
In 2021, the Eastern Ontario Municipality of Marmora and Lake was excited about celebrating its 200th year. To commemorate the occasion they decided to commission Warmbreeze to design a special anniversary logo. I was brought in as the lead designer. The client wanted a welcoming, eye-catching graphic that would be displayed on signage, promotional materials, and merchandise. The logo also had to successfully convey the unique charm and geography of the region.
Although Marmora is a summer vacation spot now, it started out as a mining area. Its most distinctive feature is the large round lake outside of town. However, this is not actually a lake, but a quarry. This was used as the main feature of the design. To tie it all together and convey the welcoming quality desired, an anthropomorphic pick ax was utilized. It stands straight and tall, arms stretched in the middle of the quarry. A proud silhouette welcoming visitors, in a joyful sunburst over water.
Unfortunately due to the Covid pandemic, the municipality had to postpone the celebrations until the summer of 2022. The finished design has been well received and will certainly be front and center in the upcoming festivities.
